White Sox recall Marshall, demote Vieira

The Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of Evan Marshall from Triple-A Charlotte and optioned fellow right-hander Thyago Vieira to the same affiliate prior to Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles.

The 29-year-old Marshall is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in nine relief appearances for Charlotte. He had two saves and 13 strikeouts in nine innings.

Marshall has a 4-7 career record with a 5.15 ERA in 101 major league appearances with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2014-16), Seattle Mariners (2017) and Cleveland Indians (2018).

Vieira was recalled by the White Sox on Sunday but didn’t get into a game. The 26-year-old was 2-0 with a 5.00 ERA in seven appearances at Charlotte prior to being recalled.

Vieira is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 17 big league appearances, including one for the Seattle Mariners in 2017 and 16 for Chicago last season.
