The Chicago White Sox placed rookie left fielder Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a high right ankle sprain.
Jimenez was injured while attempting to make a catch at the fence during the third inning of Chicago’s 12-11 win against the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
The 22-year-old is batting .241 with three homers, eight RBIs and 25 strikeouts in 21 games.
Jose Rondon will replace Jimenez in left field during Sunday’s series finale against Detroit.
The White Sox also placed two right-handers on the 10-day IL: Nate Jones with elbow inflammation and Ryan Burr (retroactive to April 25) with shoulder inflammation.
Two relief pitchers, left-hander Aaron Bummer and right-hander Thyago Vieira, were called up from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Jimenez and Jones on the active roster. No corresponding move has been announced for Burr.
