Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert left Sunday’s home game vs. the Cleveland Indians after straining his right hip flexor while attempting to beat out a throw at first base in the bottom of the first inning.
The 23-year-old, in his second season with the White Sox, pulled up a few steps before the bag then skipped a few beats on his left leg before falling to the ground, visibly wincing in pain. He was down for a few moments before being helped to his feet and off the field without stepping on his right leg.
The White Sox announced that Robert was diagnosed with a right hip flexor strain and that X-rays were negative. Robert will be re-evaluated on Monday.
Robert was replaced by Adam Eaton as a pinch runner, and Leury Garcia took his place in center field.
Robert, who became the first rookie in White Sox history to win a Gold Glove Award last season, has one home run and eight RBIs so far in 2021.
