The Minnesota Vikings made it official Thursday, announcing Ed Donatell as their defensive coordinator and former head coach Mike Pettine as assistant head coach.
The announcements came one day after the team finally named Kevin O’Connell as its head coach.
Donatell, 65, spent the last three seasons as defensive coordinator under Vic Fangio in Denver.
The post is Donatell’s fourth as defensive coordinator in the NFL and fifth overall. Prior to Denver, Donatell was last a coordinator with the University of Washington in 2008, after previous stints running defenses in Green Bay (2000-03) and Atlanta (2004-06).
Pettine, 55, comes over from Chicago where he was a senior defensive assistant for the Bears last season. He brings head coaching experience after two years running the Cleveland Browns (2014-15). He went 10-22 during that stint.
Pettine’s also been a defensive coordinator with the New York Jets (2009-12), Buffalo Bills (2013) and Packers (2018-20).
Other coaches named Thursday by the team: tight ends coach/passing game coordinator Brian Angelichio, assistant quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, offensive line coach Chris Kuper, running backs coach/run game coordinator Curtis Modkins, quarterbacks coach Chris O’Hara, assistant offensive line coach Justin Rascati, and defensive line coach Chris Rumph.
O’Connell joins the Vikings after winning Super Bowl LVI as the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive coordinator.
