Key Points:
- Ohio State earned major recruiting buzz after defeating Penn State in Week 10.
- Top 2028 cornerback A’Mir Sears called his Buckeyes visit “unbelievable.”
- Ryan Day’s program continues to attract elite talent from across the country.
The Ohio State Buckeyes defended their home turf on Saturday, defeating the Penn State Nittany Lions 38-14 in a Week 10 matchup. They advanced to 8-0, marking another stepping stone with the goals of securing a Big Ten title and winning a second straight national championship.
They truly dominated the Nittany Lions, with quarterback Julian Sayin completing 20-of-23 passes for 316 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 259.8 passer rating (season-high). What makes the win even more exciting is that Ohio State impressed a number of recruits who were on campus during visits.
One of those recruits was class of 2028 cornerback A’Mir Sears. After the game, he spoke with Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong and gave a glowing review of the experience in Columbus.
“The environment is unbelievable,” Sears said. “This is really a football school and you can tell it the minute you get off the plane. I think the fact that players from South Florida have come here and had success in college and the NFL is big. I’m looking forward to growing this relationship with the Buckeyes.”

That’s a positive sign for Ohio State, as Rivals Industry Rankings place Sears as a four-star recruit, the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 5 player in the nation. He’s also an out-of-state target, hailing from Pembroke Pines, Florida.
This season as a sophomore for West Broward High School, he’s racked up 20 tackles, three interceptions and five pass deflections in 10 games.
Ohio State’s Recruiting Dominance
Ryan Day has served as the Buckeyes’ head coach since 2018 and has been among college football’s best recruiters. In every cycle from 2019 to 2026, Ohio State’s recruiting class ranks within the top 15 in the nation.
Though it’s a while until players from the 2028 class hit campus, Day keeps his eyes on the future. Sears could soon be the latest addition, potentially joining four-star defensive lineman Jameer Whyce and four-star running back Elijah Hall.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Buckeyes land the nation’s top cornerback recruit under Day, also doing so in the 2025 cycle with Devin Sanchez.
However, Sears has a handful of college football powerhouses fighting for his commitment. Along with Ohio State, he’s received scholarship offers from Miami, LSU, Florida State, Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
