Texas sends two LBs home for rules violations

Texas sent two freshmen linebackers home prior to Tuesday’s Alamo Bowl for unspecified violations of team rules.

The school announced Monday that David Gbenda and Byron Vaughns would not participate when the Longhorns (7-5) face No. 11 Utah (11-2) at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Vaughns appeared in seven games this season and registered 14 tackles and one forced fumble. Gbenda played in one game and had one tackle.

Gbenda was a four-star signee in the 2019 recruiting class, ranked as the No. 11 inside linebacker in the nation and the No. 24 overall prospect in Texas by the 247 Sports Composite.

Vaughns redshirted last season and was a three-star signee in the 2018 class.
