Texas loses another RB ahead of LSU clash

The Texas Longhorns’ running back depth took another hit, as true freshman Jordan Whittington will miss four-to-six weeks because of a torn abductor muscle, coach Tom Herman said Monday.

Whittington was injured in Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech after catching two passes for 17 yards.

Herman said that Whittington, a five-star recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings, has been bothered by a sports hernia injury since high school. Whittington will undergo surgery in Philadelphia, Herman added.

As No. 10 Texas prepares for a big hone game against No. 6 LSU on Saturday, it has one healthy scholarship running back — sophomore Keaontay Ingram, who rushed 11 times for 78 yards and a touchdown last weekend despite missing time during camp with a knee problem.

Senior Kirk Johnson (shoulder) and junior Daniel Young (ankle) are out because of camp injuries. Walk-on running back Jarrett Smith is also out due to injury.

True freshman Roschon Johnson was moved from quarterback a couple of weeks ago and is expected to be the second-teamer in the backfield. He rushed seven times for 26 yards against Louisiana Tech. Herman said he also would move true freshman linebacker David Gbenda to running back.
