Texas LB Floyd takes medical retirement

Texas freshman De’Gabriel Floyd, a four-star linebacker prospect in the Class of 2019, is medically retiring from football without ever playing a down for the Longhorns.

He announced his status Monday night on Twitter.

Floyd, from Southern California, was the No. 3 inside linebacker in the nation in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports composite. He was ranked No. 67 in the nation.

He enrolled early at Texas and was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal, and he sat out the season.
