Stanford QB Mills one of trio sidelined due to COVID-19 issues

Stanford quarterback Davis Mills was one of three players unavailable for Saturday night’s road game against No. 12 Oregon due to COVID-19 reasons, the school announced.

Also unavailable for the Cardinal’s season-opening game were senior receiver/returner Connor Wedington and junior defensive end Trey LaBounty. Stanford said the trio were ruled out “due to COVID-19 testing results and contact tracing protocols.”

Mills, a senior, passed for 1,960 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions in eight games last season. Junior Jack West (37 career passing attempts) made his second career start in place of Mills.

Wedington also represents a big loss as he had 51 receptions for 506 yards and averaged 28.1 yards on kickoff returns last season.
