Quarterback Johnny Langan is appealing the NCAA’s ruling that he is ineligible to play this season at Rutgers.
Langan, who spent one season at Boston College, sought a waiver to allow him to play immediately with the Scarlet Knights.
“Langan … his NCAA waiver was denied and it’s in [the] appeal process and [we] have no timeline, no timetable on when we might get a decision back on that,” coach Chris Ash said in quotes distributed by the school. “[I]t’s in the NCAA’s hands and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
Rutgers instead will turn to 2018 starter Artur Sitkowski and McLane Carter, a graduate transfer from Texas Tech. Freshman Cole Snyder, a three-star recruit, also is on the roster.
The Scarlet Knights were one of the worst passing teams in the nation in 2018, averaging just 132.2 yards per game. The quarterbacks threw for five touchdowns to go with 22 interceptions.
Rutgers finished 1-11 (0-9 Big Ten) last season. The Scarlet Knights open the 2019 season on Aug. 30 against Massachusetts.
