Rockies’ Murphy (finger) sidelined at least a month

Colorado Rockies infielder Daniel Murphy will be sidelined at least a month with a broken index finger, manager Bud Black told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday.

Murphy, who signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Rockies in December, was injured in his second game with his new team. He was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, his 34th birthday.

The three-time All-Star was 1 for 10 and scored a run in two games against the Miami Marlins.

Black said the team is still waiting on official word from a hand specialist, but an X-ray on Saturday revealed an avulsion fracture in Murphy’s left index finger.

Playing first base, Murphy was hurt when his hand jammed awkwardly into the dirt while fielding a ball in the fourth inning of Friday night’s 6-1 win in Miami. He remained in the game.

Murphy is a .299 career hitter with 122 homers and 641 RBIs over 11 seasons with the New York Mets (2008-15), Washington Nationals (2016-18) and Chicago Cubs (2018).
