New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino will undergo an MRI exam to diagnose the source of continued discomfort as he rehabilitates from a shoulder injury, according to multiple reports.
Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Monday that Severino “didn’t feel great” after a long-toss session.
The 25-year-old right-hander was diagnosed with inflammation of the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder during spring training and was expected to miss the first month of the season.
He is just one of many injured Yankees, with pitchers CC Sabathia and Dellin Betances as well as position players Didi Gregorius, Troy Tulowitzki, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Andujar and Aaron Hicks currently sidelined.
In 2018, Severino finished 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA and struck out 220 batters in 191 1/3 innings.
A two-time All-Star, Severino signed a four-year, $40 million contract extension in February.
