Reports: Reds sign reliever Strop to one-year deal

The Cincinnati Reds are signing free agent reliever Pedro Strop to a one-year, $1.825 million contract, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Thursday.

Performance bonuses can boost the 34-year-old right-hander’s earnings to $3.5 million, per the report.

Strop pitched in 50 games for the Chicago Cubs in 2019, posting a 2-5 record with 10 saves and a 4.97 ERA. He struck out 49 batters and walked 20 in 41 2/3 innings.

He is 28-30 with a 3.21 ERA and 32 saves in 555 career appearances, all in relief, with the Cubs (2013-19), Baltimore Orioles (2011-13) and Texas Rangers (2009-11). He has 548 strikeouts in 501 1/3 innings.

Strop won a World Series championship with Chicago in 2016.

Strop joined the Cubs in a July 2013 trade with the Orioles that also brought right-hander Jake Arrieta to Chicago.
