The Boston Red Sox and shortstop Xander Bogaerts are close to completing a seven-year, $132 million extension, multiple outlets reported Sunday.
The extension would begin with this season and will include an opt-out clause, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Bogaerts, 26, is in his seventh season with the Red Sox. He was an All-Star in 2016 and won World Series championships with Boston in 2013 and ’18.
Bogaerts batted .288 with a career-high 23 homers and 103 RBIs last season. Through four games this season, he is 3-for-16 with one homer, one RBI and six strikeouts.
