The Texas Rangers are trading shortstop Elvis Andrus to the Oakland Athletics for designated hitter Khris Davis, multiple outlets reported Saturday.
The Rangers are also sending catcher Aramis Garcia and $13.5 million to the American League West rival A’s in exchange for Davis, catcher Jonah Heim and right-handed pitcher Dane Acker, according to the Dallas Morning News and The Athletic.
Texas owed Andrus $28.5. million over the next two years.
Andrus, 32, has spent his entire 12-year career with the Rangers. He is a lifetime .274 hitter with 303 doubles, 305 stolen bases and 636 RBIs in 1,652 games. He was the American League Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2009 and made the All-Star team in 2010 and 2012.
The Rangers are expected to move Gold Glove second baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa to shortstop for the 2021 season.
Davis, 33, led the majors with 48 home runs in 2018 and posted three straight 100-RBI seasons with Oakland from 2016-18. He batted .200 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 30 games last season. His career numbers include a .243 average, 218 homers and 580 RBIs in 938 games with the Milwaukee Brewers (2013-15) and A’s.
Garcia, 28, played 37 games with the San Francisco Giants from 2018-19 and batted .229 with six home runs and 14 RBIs.
Heim, 25, made his big-league debut last Aug. 25 and batted .211 with five RBIs in 13 games for Oakland.
Acker, 21, was a fourth-round pick by the A’s in the 2020 draft out of the University of Oklahoma.
