The Houston Texans fired senior vice president of football administration Chris Olsen on Sunday, according to a report from the Houston Chronicle.
Olsen spent the past 13 years with the Texans and managed the team’s salary cap as part of his most recent role.
He was a powerful figure in the front office, as the organization announced last June that Olsen was in charge of football operations on an interim basis after general manager Brian Gaine was fired. However, head coach Bill O’Brien has operated as the team’s general manager since, with assistance from executive vice president of player development Jack Easterby.
Houston went 10-6 this season and won the AFC South title. After beating the Buffalo Bills 22-19 in overtime in the first round of the playoffs, the Texans lost 51-31 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.
The Texans’ latest playoff exit led to more scrutiny of O’Brien, who is 2-4 in the postseason in six years with Houston. The coach told reporters earlier this month he doesn’t anticipate the team hiring a new general manager soon.
