Washington Redskins quarterback Case Keenum is expected to start this weekend’s game against the Miami Dolphins, according to a published report Wednesday.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Keenum will get the nod on Sunday, provided his injured foot allows him to face the host Dolphins (0-4).
Washington interim coach Bill Callahan has yet to publicly name his starting quarterback against Miami.
Keenum, 31, started the first four games for the winless Redskins (0-5) this season, completing 92 of 135 passes for 970 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions.
With Keenum ailing, Colt McCoy got the nod in Sunday’s 33-7 loss to the New England Patriots, completing 18 of 27 passes for 119 yards with one interception in what proved to be Jay Gruden’s final game as the team’s coach. Gruden was fired on Monday morning.
Callahan made clear at his introductory press conference on Monday afternoon that he doesn’t believe that rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins is ready for start an NFL game.
“We’re going to continue to develop him and heighten his maturation process. Try to get him on schedule so he is prepared,” Callahan said of Haskins, who was selected with the 15th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Haskins threw three interceptions in relief of Keenum in Washington’s 24-3 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 29. He completed 9 of 17 passes for 107 yards.
The Redskins are 0-5 for the first time since 2001.
