Report: Rams CB Hill to have thumb surgery

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Troy Hill will have surgery Monday to repair a broken thumb and still plans to play on Saturday at San Francisco, according to an NFL Network report.

Hill suffered the injury in the first half of Sunday’s 44-21 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys. The Rams are on the brink of elimination from the playoffs, needing to win their last two games, while the Minnesota Vikings lose their final two in order to advance.

Hill has been a key performer to a Rams’ defense that has improved against the pass after the addition of fellow cornerback Jalen Ramsey in an Oct. 16 trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hill, in his fifth season out of Oregon, has 41 tackles and two interceptions in 14 games (nine starts).

Hill signed a two-year extension in May that could be worth up to $8.25 million. He has four interceptions over 57 career games (23 starts) with all but three of those games with the Rams. He also played for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015.
