The Pittsburgh Pirates signed right-hander Trevor Cahill to a one-year, $1.5 million deal on Thursday night, according to a report from USA Today.
Cahill, 33, reportedly could earn up to $1 million more in bonuses as part of the agreement.
The veteran right-hander spent last season with the San Francisco Giants, going 1-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 11 games (six starts). He walked 14 and struck out 31 in 25 innings.
In 12 big league seasons, Cahill is 85-94 with a 4.20 ERA in 352 games (225 starts). He earned an All-Star selection in 2010 with the Oakland A’s when he won a career-best 18 games.
The Pirates needed to bolster their starting rotation after parting ways with Jameson Taillon, Joe Musgrove, Chris Archer and Trevor Williams. Pittsburgh marks the ninth team for Cahill, who also has pitched for the Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland, Kansas City Royals, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks.
