Report: Colts QB Brissett nursing MCL sprain

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett is dealing with an MCL sprain, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on Monday.

Mortensen’s report is in line with the assessment of head coach Frank Reich, who made his quick diagnosis shortly after the Colts’ 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Brissett’s availability for next Sunday’s game against the visiting Miami Dolphins (1-7) is not known at this time.

The 26-year-old Brissett sustained the injury after guard Quenton Nelson was pushed into him following an incomplete pass in the second quarter. Brissett remained on the ground for several minutes before eventually jogging off the field.

Brissett completed 4 of 5 passes for 59 yards before being replaced by Brian Hoyer, who completed the drive with a touchdown pass to give the Colts a 10-3 lead.

Hoyer was 17 of 26 for 168 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw an interception that was returned 96 yards for a touchdown by Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Brissett has thrown for 1,649 yards with 14 touchdown passes and just three interceptions this season after being elevated to starter following the unexpected retirement of Andrew Luck.
