Report: Castillo to become Bears’ OL coach

The Chicago Bears’ opening at offensive line coach lasted for about 24 hours, as the team hired Juan Castillo for the post, NFL Network reported Wednesday.

The Bears fired offensive line coach Harry Hiestand on Tuesday in a purge that also included offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich, tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride and assistant special teams coach Brock Olivo.

The Bears were 8-8 this past season and finished 29th in total offense with 296.8 yards per game. Chicago was 27th in rushing offense with 91.1 yards per game, one of 11 teams that did not average 100 yards per contest.

Castillo, 60, was most recently the Buffalo Bills’ offensive line coach and running game coordinator for two seasons before he was let go following the 2018 season.

A former player with the USFL’s San Antonio Gunslingers, Castillo has coached in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles (1995-2012) and the Baltimore Ravens (2013-16), in addition to the Bills. He has also been a coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
