Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Tuesday.
The team said Dr. Christopher Ahmad at New York-Presbyterian Hospital performed the operation to remove loose bodies.
Eovaldi, 29, is expected to make a full return to pitching within six weeks.
Eovaldi, who signed a four-year, $68 million contract in the offseason, has a 6.00 ERA with no decisions in four starts this season.
He last pitched on April 17 against the New York Yankees and gave up one unearned run and three hits over six innings. He didn’t experience any problems during the start, but he was unable to straighten his right arm the following day.
Eovaldi is 44-53 with a 4.21 ERA in 160 appearances (152 starts) for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2011-12), Miami Marlins (2012-14), Yankees (2015-16), Tampa Bay Rays (2018) and Red Sox (2018-19). He missed the 2017 season while recuperating from Tommy John surgery.
