The Baltimore Ravens named Sashi Brown their new team president Friday, poaching the executive from the NBA’s Washington Wizards.
The hiring comes in conjunction with Ravens president Dick Cass announcing his retirement after 18 years in the position.
In a news release, the Ravens said Brown will join the team in March.
Brown, 45, spent 2013-17 as executive vice president of football operations of the Cleveland Browns, which included control of the personnel department beginning in 2016. His tenure with Cleveland did not translate to on-field success; the Browns went 1-27 from 2016 until he was fired December 2017.
Brown also served as senior vice president and general counsel of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2005-12.
The Wizards’ parent company, Monumental Sports and Entertainment, hired him in 2019 as part of a restructuring of their basketball operation overseeing the Wizards, WNBA’s Washington Mystics and G-League’s Capital City Go-Go.
Brown was promoted in November to president and special advisor to Wizards owner Ted Leonsis, but now he will return to football.
Brown will become the second Black team president in the NFL, following the Washington Commanders’ Jason Wright.
