Police still searching for suspected gunman in shooting of Jets CB Kris Boyd

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd remains in critical condition and authorities are advancing the search for a gunman suspected of pulling the trigger in the early Sunday incident.

Boyd, identified by the office of New York Mayor Eric Adams as the victim, was taken to Bellevue Hospital following a Midtown Manhattan shooting shortly after 2 a.m. ET on Sunday.

Police released surveillance images as part of a New York Crimestoppers Alert with images of the alleged suspect wanted in the shooting, which records showed took place outside of a restaurant on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue.

The New York Police Department did not name Boyd when sharing a 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and taken to hospital with critical wounds. His condition was later updated to critical but stable.

Reporting by the New York Post, citing police sources, identified vehicles leaving the scene after shots were fired at 2:06 a.m. ET on Sunday as a BMW X8 SUV and a Mercedes-Benz Maybach.

The Jets did not comment directly on Boyd’s health, but teammates went public to ask for prayers for Boyd.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” the Jets said in a statement.

“Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety,” Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson posted to X on Sunday. “Lord I ask that you please just get him through this safely. In your name, Amen.”

Boyd, who played collegiately at Texas, is in his seventh NFL season. He has been on injured reserve throughout the season for the Jets because of a shoulder injury. He primarily played special teams with three previous NFL teams.

He has totaled 105 tackles, five fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in 81 career games (six starts) with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. He was selected by the Vikings in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
