Phillies RHP Zach Eflin scratched from start vs. D-backs

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Zach Eflin was scratched from his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, hours after being activated from the injured list.

Matt Moore will start instead for the Phillies.

Eflin was on the IL with tendinitis in his right knee. His knee had a flare-up about three hours before first pitch.

“The body’s a funny thing, and I know that this particular injury has its tendency to be a little fluky and unpredictable,” Phils general manager Sam Fuld said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I don’t think anybody knows why this happened.”

It was to be Eflin’s first start since July 16. He is coming off a rehab start Saturday at Double-A Reading. It’s unclear if he’ll need to return to the IL.

Eflin is 4-7 with a 4.17 ERA in 18 starts this season.

Moore is 2-3 with a 5.93 ERA in 19 appearances (11 starts) this season.
