The Carolina Panthers put John Miller on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday and the starting right guard will miss Sunday’s season opener.
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Miller will miss at least 10 days, suggesting the 6-foot-3 lineman tested positive for COVID-19 and is unvaccinated. Ten days is the protocol for unvaccinated players who test positive.
Rhule said last week the team had just two unvaccinated players.
Dennis Daley is expected to start in Miller’s place in Week 1 against the visiting New York Jets.
Miller, 28, has started all 74 games he has played in since joining the league in 2015 with Buffalo. This is his second season in Carolina. He started 14 games for the Panthers in 2020.
Daley, 25, has played in 19 games (12 starts) for the Panthers since being taken in the sixth round of the 2019 draft.
