The San Diego Padres placed left-hander Matt Strahm on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a left rib strain.
The 27-year-old Strahm was enjoying a consistent season until being rocked for seven runs and seven hits over 4 1/3 innings against the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
The setback dropped Strahm’s record to 2-5 in 11 starts and saw his ERA rise nearly a full run to 4.07.
San Diego also designated outfielder Alex Dickerson for assignment, optioned left-hander Brad Wieck to Triple-A El Paso, activated right-hander Miguel Diaz (knee) from the 60-day IL and recalled righty Cal Quantrill from El Paso.
The 24-year-old Quantrill is slated to start Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He is 1-2 with a 5.14 ERA in four big league starts.
Dickerson, 29, was 3-for-19 with two RBIs in 12 games with the Padres this season. Overall, he hit .250 with 10 homers and 39 RBIs in 107 games over parts of three seasons in San Diego.
Wieck, 27, had a 6.75 ERA in 23 appearances for the Padres, while the 24-year-old Diaz was 2-1 with a 4.37 ERA in six appearances (four starts) during a rehab stint for Double-A Amarillo.
