Padres 1B Hosmer scratched from lineup with illness

San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer was a late scratch due to illness prior to Saturday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The team said Hosmer’s illness is not COVID-19 related.

Hosmer, 30, matched his career best of six RBIs — which also set a franchise Opening Day record — in San Diego’s 7-2 home win over the Diamondbacks on Friday. Hosmer went 3-for-4 in the first game of his third season with the Padres.

Ty France replaced Hosmer in Saturday’s lineup.

Earlier in the day, Cincinnati Reds infielder Matt Davidson was placed on the injured list Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19. Davidson played Friday night against the Detroit Tigers and was pulled after two at-bats.
