Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle departed Sunday’s game against the Chicago White Sox after being hit on the left forearm by a pitch.
The Orioles said X-rays were negative and classified Mountcastle’s injury as a contusion.
He was batting in the first inning when a fastball from White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease nailed him on the forearm.
Mountcastle was examined by a team trainer and remained in the game. But he was replaced at first base by Pat Valaika at the top of the second inning.
Mountcastle, 24, is batting .255 with 14 homers and 48 RBIs in 83 games.
