Oddsmakers finally giving nod to Nats

It took a record-tying eight-game postseason winning streak and “stealing” two games in Houston, but sportsbooks have finally turned the World Series betting odds in the Washington Nationals’ favor.

The heaviest underdogs in a decade entering the 2019 World Series, the Nats closed the odds gap with their 5-4 win over Astros and ace Gerrit Cole in Game 1. But it was their late offensive explosion for a 12-3 win in Game 2 that finally flipped momentum toward Washington.

Heading home for Game 3 on Friday, the Nationals are now -280 favorites to win the Series by FanDuel, -275 by DraftKings and -270 by PointsBet.

DraftKings’ over/under remains 6.5 games, but the sportsbook is now offering a -182 prop bet that the Nationals win the Series by more than one game. Washington plays host to the next three games, and the Astros must win at least two of those to force the Series back to Houston.

A Nationals sweep was still the longest shot among the odds of exact outcomes of the series at +1000 by DraftKings and PointsBet before Game 2. Those odds have now plummeted to +275 by DraftKings — the lowest on the board.

Series Markets:
Nationals win 4-0: +275
Nationals win 4-1: +285
Astros win 4-3: +375
Nationals win 4-2: +550
Nationals win 4-3: +700
Astros win 4-2: +900

PointsBet’s “total games” prop: 4 games (+375), 5 games (+325), 6 games (+225), 7 games (+170).

The Nationals will send Anibal Sanchez to the mound in Game 3 as -148 favorites by DraftKings against the Astros (+125) and Zack Greinke.
