Notre Dame and Michigan will resume their football series, but there will be a significant wait.
The schools announced before Saturday’s night game in Ann Arbor, Mich., that they will meet again in Michigan Stadium on Sept. 3, 2033, with a return game set for Sept. 2, 2034, in South Bend, Ind.
The Wolverines entered Saturday night’s game with a 24-18-1 edge in the rivalry, which dates to 1887.
The matchup became a regular on the schedule from 1978 through 2014, when the teams played 31 times, including annually from 2002 to 2014 before Notre Dame canceled three scheduled games as it took on scheduling responsibilities against ACC teams.
Michigan and Notre Dame then agreed in 2016 to a home-and-home series in 2018 and 2019.
The Fighting Irish won last season, 24-17.
