Notre Dame DE Hayes (torn labrum) out for season

Notre Dame defensive end Daelin Hayes will miss the rest of the season, and starting cornerback Shaun Crawford could be out a month, coach Brian Kelly said Sunday.

Hayes, who has a torn labrum, had three tackles for loss, a sack and fumble recovery this season as part of a deep rotation of defensive ends that includes starters Julian Okwara and Khalid Kareem, as well as Adetokunbo Ogundeji.

Hayes has 78 career tackles, with 14 1/2 for loss and six sacks. Having played in four games, he would be eligible to redshirt and return in 2020 as a fifth-year senior.

Crawford, a senior, suffered a dislocated elbow in Saturday’s home victory over Virginia. He is said to be out 3-4 weeks, which would put him on the sidelines for the Oct. 12 home game against USC and in doubt for the Oct. 26 game at Michigan.

Crawford has 12 tackles, an interception and two pass breakups this season.
