NC State signs Doeren to 5-year deal

North Carolina State has extended head coach Dave Doeren’s contract for five years through the end of the 2023 season, the school announced Tuesday.

Doeren, 47, has notched back-to-back, nine-win campaigns and has taken the Wolfpack to bowl appearances in five straight seasons. He is 43-34 in six seasons with the program, which he joined in 2013 after a two-year stint as the head coach at Northern Illinois.

NC State will increase Doeren’s annual salary from $3 million to $3.25 million as part of the extension.

“I’m grateful for the commitment and support NC State has provided to my family and I,” Doeren said in a press release. “This University and community are home to us, we’re excited with what we’re building with NC State football and I look forward to continuing to lead this program.”

The NC State Board of Trustees and UNC System Office recently approved the contract and pay increase, according to the school.

The Wolfpack will kick off the season on Aug. 31 with a home game against East Carolina.
