Nationals catcher Yan Gomes and left fielder Andrew Stevenson left Washington’s game Monday at Milwaukee due to injuries.
Gomes sustained a left forearm contusion when he was hit by a first-inning pitch from Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin. He came out in favor of pinch hitter Kurt Suzuki in the third inning.
Suzuki took over at catcher after striking out in his pinch-hitting appearance.
Stevenson departed after striking out in the top of the fourth. Stevenson grabbed his left side after swinging through a pitch by Chacin. The team cited back spasms as the reason for Stevenson’s reaction.
Michael A. Taylor came on to play center field, with Victor Robles moving from center to right and Adam Eaton moving from right to left.
The Nationals already have everyday players Ryan Zimmerman, Trea Turner, Anthony Rendon, Matt Adams and Juan Soto on the injured list. Rendon (left elbow contusion) is slated to come off the IL on Tuesday, according to manager Dave Martinez.
Washington utility man Jake Noll was the team’s emergency catcher with Gomes out of the game.
