Michigan State indefinitely suspended two redshirt freshman linebackers after an arrest last month, multiple outlets reported Monday.
Police confirmed to MLive.com that Luke Fulton and Charles Willekes were arrested in connection to the same assault complaint on Sept. 8 in East Lansing, Mich.
Fulton was initially charged with aggravated assault and arraigned on Sept. 9. On Oct. 2, he accepted a plea to a misdemeanor assault and battery charge to avoid up-front jail time and he is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 28, according to his attorney, Mike Nichols.
East Lansing Police Department deputy chief Steve Gonzalez told MLive he could not disclose the reason why Willekes was arrested because his court record isn’t public.
“Luke Fulton and Charles Willekes were suspended from all team activities immediately, and remain suspended from the program indefinitely,” Michigan State football spokesman Ben Phlegar said in a statement to MLive.com.
The Spartans are scheduled to open the season Saturday at home against Rutgers in Big Ten action.
