Miami WR Thomas declares for draft

Miami wide receiver Jeff Thomas is skipping his final season and entering the 2020 NFL Draft.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound junior, who was suspended by the Hurricanes in each of the past two seasons, announced his decision Friday on Instagram.

“I look forward to preparing for the next level and showing what I am capable of,” he wrote.

Thomas said he will not participate in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 26 when Miami (6-6) takes on Louisiana Tech (9-3).

Thomas caught 31 passes for 379 yards and three touchdowns and rushed seven times for 41 yards in 10 games in 2019. He was suspended for two games in October for violating unspecified team rules.

His three-year career totals include 83 receptions for 1,316 yards and eight touchdowns, 54 kick returns for 1,219 yards and 14 punt returns for 265 yards and one score.

Thomas was also suspended in November 2018 for unspecified reasons and reportedly contemplated transferring to Illinois before electing to return to the Hurricanes. He is from East St. Louis, Ill.
