The New York Mets claimed infielder Robel Garcia off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.
In a corresponding move, the team designated outfielder Ryan Cordell for assignment.
Garcia, 27, didn’t appear in the majors this season. He slugged five homers in 80 plate appearances with the Chicago Cubs in 2019 but hit only .208 with 35 strikeouts.
Cordell, 28, is a .202 career hitter with eight homers and 28 RBIs in 121 games.
