The New York Mets activated National League batting leader Jeff McNeil from the 10-day injured list before Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
McNeil has been sidelined by a left hamstring strain. He went on the IL on Aug. 14.
McNeil wasn’t in the starting lineup against Braves left-hander Max Fried but he said he was available to come off the bench. McNeil also said he expects to be in the starting lineup on Sunday.
McNeil, who is batting .332 with 15 homers and 55 RBIs in 105 games, said he tested the leg on Friday and everything went well.
“It feels normal,” McNeil said before Saturday’s game. “A lot better than it did, obviously. There are no worries about it.”
New York also designated outfielder Aaron Altherr for assignment. Altherr batted .129 with one homer and two RBIs in 26 games.
Altherr also has played for the Philadelphia Phillies (22 games) and San Francisco Giants (one) this season. Overall, he is just 5-for-61 (.082) in 49 games.
