The Miami Marlins placed first baseman Garrett Cooper and exciting rookie infielder Jazz Chisholm on the 10-day injured list Monday, following Sunday’s game against Philadelphia — a 7-4 loss — in which each player was injured.
Chisholm was injured on a diving attempt at catching a popup single in the first inning. He’s listed as having a left shoulder contusion. Cooper collided with Travis Jankowski — who was beating out a bunt — at first base in the eighth inning, resulting in a left elbow sprain.
Cooper, 30, is batting .284 this season with 33 RBIs and nine home runs in 71 games. The 23-year-old Chisholm, who has played in 70 games, has batted .251 with 34 RBIs and 11 home runs.
The team is awaiting MRIs on both.
With a three-game series with the Washington Nationals beginning Monday night, the Marlins recalled outfielder Lewis Brinson and selected right-hander Andrew Bellatti from Jacksonville.
Brinson is a career .192 hitter with 77 RBIs and 18 home runs. Bellatti is 3-1 in his career with a 2.31 ERA in 17 appearances.
