Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson revealed Monday that right-hander George Kirby will start Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays when the best-of-seven matchup shifts to the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday.
Wilson also revealed that right-hander Luis Castillo will start in Game 4.
The Mariners turned to right-hander Bryce Miller on short rest for Game 1 and he responded with six strong innings in a 3-1 victory. Seattle was set to start right-hander Logan Gilbert in Game 2 on Monday.
Kirby last started Friday against the Detroit Tigers in the deciding Game 5 of the AL Division Series that went 15 innings and ended in the Mariners’ 3-2 victory. Castillo closed out that game with 1 1/3 innings while earning the win. Kirby threw 66 pitches, while Castillo threw 15.
In 23 regular season starts, Kirby, 27, went 10-8 with a 4.21 ERA. He did not face the Blue Jays in this past season and has three career starts against them, going 0-1 with a 6.28 ERA.
Castillo, 32, was 11-8 with a 3.54 ERA in 32 regular season starts and went 1-1 with a 7.20 ERA in two outings against Toronto. Castillo is 2-3 with a 4.68 ERA in six lifetime starts against the Blue Jays.
