Mariners reinstate Drew Steckenrider from IL

The Seattle Mariners are bringing on some needed bullpen help, reinstating right-hander Drew Steckenrider from the 10-day injured list and selecting the contract of fellow right-hander Yacksel Rios.

To make room, the team optioned right-hander Robert Dugger and left-hander Daniel Zamora to Triple-A Tacoma.

Steckenrider, 30, on the IL since May 21 due to COVID-19 protocols, is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA through 14 games this season. He has 21 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings.

In 137 career big-league appearances with Miami (2017-19) and Seattle, Steckenrider is 7-8 with a 3.55 ERA, 163 strikeouts and six saves through 132 innings.

The Mariners acquired Rios, 27, via trade on Friday with the Tampa Bay Rays for cash consideration. In 12 appearances with Triple-A Durham, Rios was 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA with 17 strikeouts.

In four big league seasons, Ríos is 5-2 with a 6.36 ERA in 69 1/3 innings over 66 appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies (2017-19) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2019-20).

Dugger, 25, has appeared in 10 games (three starts) with a 6.41 ERA in 19 1/3 innings.

Zamora, 28, was claimed off waivers May 22 from the New York Mets. He has four appearances with Seattle, going 2-0 with a 6.23 ERA in 4 1/3 innings.
