Mariners claim OF Broxton off waivers

The Seattle Mariners claimed OF Keon Broxton off waivers Saturday.

Broxton, 29, had been designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

The Mariners will be the fourth team Broxton has been on this calendar year. He was traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the New York Mets in January, and started the season in Queens. After hitting .143 in 34 games with the Mets, he was traded to the Orioles for international bonus slot money in May.

With Baltimore, Broxton played in 37 games, registering a .204 batting averaging and .611 OPS while striking out 49 times.

Seattle is low on outfielders with Mitch Haniger and Braden Bishop on the shelf for the foreseeable future and Domingo Santana unable to play the field.

As of Saturday morning, the Mariners were 44-63 and 15.5 games out of the Wild Card spot.
