Mariners call up Nola to replace Encarnacion

The Seattle Mariners added catcher/infielder Austin Nola to the roster on Sunday to fill the roster spot left vacant by the trade of Edwin Encarnacion.

The Mariners traded Encarnacion to the New York Yankees on Saturday.

Nola will be in Oakland when the Mariners meet the Athletics Sunday afternoon.

Nola, 29, is a career minor leaguer who will make his MLB debut with his first appearance. He played in the Miami Marlins farm system from 2012-18, and the Mariners signed him as a free agent last November.

At Triple-A Tacoma this season, he hit .327 with seven home runs, 37 RBIs and 36 runs scored.
