Coach Matt Campbell has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him on the Iowa State sideline through the 2025 season, the school announced Tuesday.
Financial terms were not revealed.
“I greatly appreciate Dr. (Wendy) Wintersteen’s and (Iowa State athletic director) Jamie’s (Pollard) proactive approach to extending my contract,” Campbell said in a statement. “My staff and I will be on the road this week actively recruiting the next class of Cyclones and it is important for recruits and their families to understand my commitment to Iowa State.”
The extension comes at a time when Campbell had been linked to high-profile head coaching jobs at Arkansas and Florida State.
Campbell, who turned 40 on Friday, led the Cyclones to a tie for third place in the Big 12 and a bowl game berth for the third straight season. They finished 7-5 and will learn their bowl destination Sunday.
Iowa State hired Campbell before the 2016 season, and in four seasons he has amassed a 26-24 record. Since a 3-9 finish in his first year, the Cyclones are 23-15.
An Ohio native, Campbell coached at Toledo from 2011-15 and was 35-15.
Should Iowa State win its bowl game and finish 8-5, the Cyclones will have post three consecutive eight-win seasons for just the second time in school history.
