Aggies look to salvage season against Auburn
With last week’s 28-13 loss at Mississippi State, the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies (5-3, 3-2 SEC) look to wrap up a three-game SEC road trip on Saturday with a bounce-back win at Auburn (5-3, 2-3 SEC).
“We’re evaluating everything known to man to make sure we give our kids the best chance,” Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said. “We do it every game. We just have to execute better and be physical.”
Auburn is coming off a 31-16 loss on the road at Ole Miss, so the Tigers are looking to start a winning streak against the Aggies.
The Aggies struggled to run the ball against Mississippi State, tallying just 61 yards on the ground. Jashaun Corbin’s 33 yards on three carries led Texas A&M rushing attack.
Texas A&M’s inefficiency in the red zone — the Aggies rank No. 10 in the SEC in red zone touchdown percentage (.553) — is another point of emphasis.
“It’s something that (Fisher has) been on to us each and every week,” Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “We’ve got to continue to get better and learn from our mistakes.”
Mond was forced to throw a season-high 46 times last week, completing 23 for 232 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He took multiple visits to Auburn as a recruit, making him familiar to a degree with the Tigers’ program.
“I had a really good relationship with Coach (Gus) Malzahn, and pretty much all of the guys that played over there,” Mond said in the Houston Chronicle.
Saturday’s SEC showdown between Texas A&M and Auburn kicks off at noon ET.
