No. 16 Wisconsin next for winless Huskers

Still winless on the season after falling 42-28 to Purdue, the Nebraska Cornhuskers (0-4, 0-2 Big Ten) face a tough test on the road against No. 16 Wisconsin (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten).

Week 6 marks the second road game in three weeks for the Cornhuskers. Nebraska will be looking to build off a strong offensive showing against the Boilermakers in which they tallied 582 yards of total offense — 323 coming through the air.

“Kids need to see consistency,” Nebraska head coach Scott Frost said. “They brought this coaching staff to get this fixed and we’re in the process to get this fixed. I have more confidence than ever to where we can take it.”

Defeating Wisconsin will be a tall order for the winless Cornhuskers as the Badgers are not only nationally ranked, but the two-time defending champions of the Big Ten West. Nebraska is also embroiled in an eight-game losing streak, a program-worst.

Nebraska’s long-term hopes are pinned on Frost, in his first season at Nebraska after leading UCF to an unbeaten season in 2017. The team’s short-team hopes are tied to improvement from true freshman quarterback Adrian Martinez.

Against Purdue, Martinez racked up 323 yards passing, completing 25-of-42 attempts, with two touchdowns and one interception.

“I saw a guy today that looks like he kind of figured out he can win a game,” Frost said.

Martinez added that he was more confident himself as the signal-caller.

“I felt more comfortable,” Martinez said. “I think as we keep going, keep progression, whatever Coach Frost thinks is going to work against a certain team, we’re going to do.”
