Houston Astros pitcher Zack Greinke will start Thursday’s American League Division Series Game 4 against the Oakland A’s after a bout with arm discomfort.
Greinke, 36, was scheduled to start Wednesday’s Game 3 but soreness pushed him back. Greinke will face off against A’s right-hander Frankie Montas.
The Astros can clinch a berth in the AL Championship Series. They lead the best-of-five ALDS 2-1 after the A’s rallied to win Wednesday.
Greinke struggled in September by going just 1-3 with a 6.08 ERA in five starts — causing his ERA to rise from 2.68 to 4.03 in the final month of the regular season.
Including his start at Minnesota on Sept. 29 in the AL wild-card round, when he lasted only four innings (one run, two hits allowed) in a 4-1 Astros win, Greinke has not pitched more than five innings in any of his past four starts.
