New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor suffered a rib cage injury Sunday against the New York Jets and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Giants said after Sunday’s 13-10 overtime loss that Taylor will remain hospitalized overnight for further observation.
During the second quarter, Taylor was attempting to pass, but the ball slipped out and he caught it before running and being sacked near the right sideline.
He finished 4-of-7 passing for 8 yards and rushed five times for 33 yards amid wet weather conditions. Taylor had started the Giants’ past three games in place of Daniel Jones, who is recovering from a neck injury.
Rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito finished the game and had a rushing touchdown that put the host Giants ahead 10-7, before the Jets forced overtime on a last-second field goal and won in the extra session.
Giants coach Brian Daboll did not share an update for either Taylor or tight end Darren Waller, who left the game early due to a hamstring injury.
Waller was listed as questionable due to the hamstring issue entering Sunday but was active to start the game. It was unclear when he aggravated the hamstring.
He had one catch for 4 yards before exiting the game, with the Giants ruling him out shortly after.
Waller, 31, is in his first season with the Giants and caught his first touchdown for the team in last week’s win over the Washington Commanders.
The Jets also saw several players go down with injuries throughout the sloppy contest.
Defensive lineman Al Woods tore his Achilles, cutting short his 13th NFL season and his first with the Jets. Woods had one sack in his six appearances this season.
Jets center Connor McGovern suffered an apparent knee injury and had to be helped off the field. Wes Schweitzer, who made his first start of the season for the Jets at right guard, shifted over to center to replace McGovern. But Schweitzer suffered a calf injury later in the second quarter, leaving practice squad call-up Xavier Newman to finish the game at center.
McGovern and Schweitzer will be evaluated tomorrow, Jets coach Robert Saleh said. McGovern is expected to miss time with a kneecap injury, NFL Network reported.
