Florida Loses Promising WR Dallas Wilson for Rest of Season

The Florida Gators (3-5) have had a roller coaster of a college football season in 2025.

After being the popular pick for a sleeper or dark horse-caliber team, the Gators got off to a 1-3 start to the season. Like he was the year prior, then-head coach Billy Napier was placed on the hot seat and had fans ready to run him out of town. Florida eventually fired the fourth-year head coach after the team’s Oct. 18 win against Mississippi State, as the program looked to find a spark with interim Billy Gonzales.

While plenty of things went wrong for Napier this season, whether it be his game management or his play-calling, it certainly didn’t help matters that blue-chip wide receiver Dallas Wilson missed the team’s first four games with a left foot injury that plagued him throughout training camp.

Wilson made his debut in the team’s Oct. 4 win over No. 9 Texas, racking up six catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns and seemed to be on the fast track to stardom.

However, the true freshman out of Tampa didn’t quite have the year he or Florida fans would have liked. In the team’s Week 10 loss to Georgia, Wilson went down with an injury that fans were hoping wasn’t serious, but was confirmed by Gators Online to have ended his season on Sunday.

“The true freshman season of Florida Gators receiver Dallas Wilson appears to be over. Wilson, who suffered a foot injury in the first half of Saturday’s 24-20 loss to No. 5 Georgia and did not return, is expected to miss the remainder of the year, sources told Gators Online,” wrote Keith Niebuhr.

Wilson finished his freshman season with 12 catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns, but now there could be some fear among Florida fans about his future with the program.

Dallas Wilson’s future with Florida in question after injury

As pointed out by On3’s transfer portal insider Pete Nakos, Wilson appeared in just four games this season. While this means he can redshirt and not lose a year of eligibility, which is great for Florida, there is no telling whether Wilson will return to the program next year. Following the firing of Napier, there had already been plenty of transfer portal chatter surrounding Wilson, and while he has yet to comment on the matter, there are likely already dozens of teams that have contacted him through back channels to gauge his interest in leaving Florida.

As for the Gators, they can still make a bowl game this year, but it would require them to win three out of their last four games. The Gators will finish the season with meetings against Kentucky, No. 7 Ole Miss, No. 23 Tennessee and Florida State.
