Dodgers place RHP Jimmy Nelson on IL, recall LHP Alex Vesia

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Jimmy Nelson on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a left lumbar strain.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled left-hander Alex Vesia from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Nelson, 32, is 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA in 25 games — one start — this season. He has struck out 41 in 27 innings.

In 10 games with the Dodgers this season, Vesia is 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA. The 25-year-old went 0-1 with an 18.69 ERA in five games for the Miami Marlins last season.

Back surgery forced Nelson to miss the 2020 season. He also missed the 2018 season recovering from shoulder surgery and most of 2019 with an elbow injury.

In 144 career games — 108 starts — with the Milwaukee Brewers (2013-2019) and the Dodgers, Nelson is 34-47 with a 4.13 ERA.
